Like some other states Florida has a bill in it's legislature that would allow illegal aliens to legally obtain a state drivers license. This was put on hold because of questions about the ability to verify information and conduct background checks through the applicants’ native countries.
Sadly, that is the wrong reason to reject this measure. While there may be some merit in the concept to documenting these people, the fact remains...they are illegal. They have entered this country through illegal, criminal means, are receiving income and services with no legal right to do so. The argument can be made that they are performing services that no one else will, but they can apply for entry, enter the country legally, and still work in their chosen jobs. It may take longer to get here, but it will certainly be safer and no one will deny them the work. And they will not have to live in fear of discovery.
I think there is another, darker and more fearsome agenda. That is revealed in the final quote of the referenced article. Democrat State Senator Ron Kline revealingly said, "It's not just about driver's licenses. It's about the basics. It's about housing, it's about health care, it's about education."
The liberals want these people to be on the dole, receiving benefits at the expense of the taxpayer, knowing they can then qualify them as voters, voters beholding to those same liberals.
It's not about compassion, it's not about justice, it's not about jobs, housing, education or healthcare. It's about political power.
Other states, California and Illinois, have rejected similar measures, Florida should follow suit and close the door on this ill-gotten measure now.
